The New York Times Magazine is commemorating the 400th anniversary of the first African slaves landing in America with a remarkable project.
It’s namely called “The 1619 Project” and it cleverly combines the power of print & digital. It involves :
- a special print edition
- a digital series with an elegant introductory landing page, and many articles styled in the same visual tone. (This story is especially worth a look, following the genealogic path of 4 African-American graduates)
- a launch event featuring journalists and artists, livestreamed online
- a participative form where readers can share their own family’s story
- resources for teachers, in cooperation with the Pulitzer Center
The initiative is clearly elevated by a great content strategy & creative direction. Again, the NYT shows us how a modern news outlet can generate impact around a major issue in 2019!
