The German publish ZEIT ONLINE published an impressive piece of data visualization, which focuses on the migration flows within Germany since the reunification of the country.
The subject itself will probably raise much interest among German readers. But the story is also remarkably edited, designed and developed, as pointed by Lisa Charlotte Rost on Twitter.
Even if you don’t speak German, have a look at that #dataviz beauty by @zeitonline: https://t.co/IygAZTNjMV
It has everything:
😍 animated maps with annotation
😍 small multiples
😍 zoomed in line charts
😍 beautiful dot circlesThe best interactive story I’ve seen lately. pic.twitter.com/Uag03tKSj2

The project is in fact the work of a new cross-functional team inside ZEIT ONLINE, called “X”. The small team (4 full-time journalists, helped with various designers & developers) ambitions to decipher the major issues of our time through a combination of reporting and visual work. That definitely sounds promising.
