To all skepctics out there (including myself), here may be a landmark piece of VR/AR journalism.
The New York Times teamed up with scientists, academics and research group Forensic Architecture to investigate the supposed chemical attack that killed many Syrians in Douma last April. From various material, they created an augmented model of the crime scene, that clearly questions the Syrian regime’s official narrative.
That’s an incredible way of conveying a forensic investigation, by letting the user explore the evidence step by step. As with all the Times’ AR projects, the immersive experience works best on recent phones but is also available as a desktop interactive or as a video piece.
