Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make a simple idea stand out. The data journalism website FiveThirtyEight is proving it with its new video series, called ‘The 2020 Draft‘.

It’s basically a short conversation between 4 staffers about who they think will win the (very) crowded 2020 Democratic primary. The reason the show works well is that it elevates the concept thanks to visual symbols — in this case the cut-out faces of the many Democratic candidates. They are everywhere in the video, from the opening title to the signs that each journalist is holding.

The whole format is a nice addition for FiveThirtyEight: the tone is more accessible than their usual data-savvy analysis but it remains eye-catching and distinctive.
